Despina Kontopoulou

Despina has strong experience in strategic communications, event and project management in both the public and private sector, in Greece and abroad in various different assignments spanning cultural, athletic and business events.

She has worked for Velti as the Global Events Manager where she organized, expanded and managed company’s presence and coordinated all strategic and logistical details in over 100 key international industry events (exhibitions and conferences), such as the Mobile World Congress (Spain), Cannes Lions Festival (France), Gitex Technology Week (UAE), Sportel (Monaco) Communicasia (Singapore), TechCrunch Disrupt (USA), AfricaCom (South Africa), Loyalty World (Russia), MMA Forum (Turkey) to name a few.

Previously, as the Head of PR and Communications at Makro Cash & Carry, she successfully organized and delivered PR events and projects, such as, opening of new stores, trade shows, client & media events as well as developed both internal and external communication strategy. Despina has also worked for ELIAMEP, CSC/Athens 2004, as well as art galleries and cultural organizations in the US.

She holds a BA in art history with a minor in Italian and French with Highest Honors from Mount Holyoke College and an MA from the Institute of Fine Arts, New York University. She is an Onassis Foundation scholarship recipient.
