Konstantinos V. Botopoulos Chairman, Hellenic Capital Market Commission

He was born in Athens in 1962. Today, Konstantinos Botopoulos is Chairman of the Hellenic Capital Market Commission, member of the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) Board of Supervisors, Member of the ESMA Management Board and Chairman of the ESMA Market Integrity Standing Committee, dealing with cooperation, exchange of information and market surveillance. He is responsible for the whole capital markets legislative package during the Greek Presidency of the European Union (first semester 2014), Chairman of the working group on the benchmark Regulation and one of the two European Regional Committee (ERC) representatives to the IOSCO Board.

Attorney at law, with a PhD in Constitutional Law (Doctorat d’ État, University of Paris I, Sorbonne), Konstantinos Botopoulos teaches European Law and Financial Markets Law. He is an ex member of the European Parliament (2007-2009), member of the Budget and Budget Control Committee, the Constitutional Affairs Committee and the Legal Committee. Lawyer in the Athens Bar, he specializes in Public and Financial Law. He has been a Legal Advisor in the Bank of Greece, member of the Legal Division. He is also a regular columnist in the newspaper TA NEA, as well as the magazines “Metarrythmisi” and “Diavazo”. He is author of seven books on legal and political matters. He speaks English, French, Italian, Spanish and some German.
